Assignment 20

Image
30 Sept'25 Assignment 20  About Edward Weston Born in Highland Park, Illinois, Edward Weston received his first camera from his father in 1902; he attended the Illinois College of Photography from 1908 to 1911.  Edward Weston was instrumental in establishing an identity for the West Coast school of photography in the early years of modernism in America. His eloquent combination of expansive landscapes and other natural subject matter with precise, unembarassedly technique created a prototype for the f/64 group's purist style. His legacy continues to this day in the work of contemporary photographers such as Emmet Gowin and Robert Adams. Cabbage Leaf The lighting brings out all the veins and textures, making the leaf feel almost sculptural. The composition centers the leaf perfectly, turning a simple vegetable into a striking study of form. It’s amazing how Weston makes something ordinary feel so detailed and alive. Alcatraz this shows his ability to transform architectur...

Movie Composition

20th Sept'25 Assignment 16 About Godfather  The Godfather (1972), directed by Francis Ford Coppola, is a classic crime drama about the Corleone family, a powerful mafia clan in New York. The story mainly follows Michael Corleone, who starts off wanting nothing to do with the family business but gradually gets pulled into it after his father, Vito Corleone, is targeted. It’s all about power, loyalty, family, and the moral costs of crime. The movie is legendary for its intense storytelling, memorable characters, and iconic scenes, it basically set the standard for gangster films. The lighting is warm but directional, giving depth to the subject and separating them from the background and the foreground blurred. It captures a moment that feels intentional yet candid, showing how framing and light can guide mood. the contrast is stronger, making reflection of the light on the chassis play a big role in shaping the object. The framing balances the subject with thei...

Henri Cartier Bresson

20th Sept'25 Assignment 11 Henri Cartier Bresson Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908–2004) is often remembered as the father of modern photojournalism, but that title barely captures his influence. He started out wanting to be a painter and carried that eye for composition into photography, which gave his pictures a kind of effortless balance. Here are some iconic shots by  Henri Cartier Bresson  A picture of Truman Capote American Novelist and screen writer. this picture is a mid shot, and yet it brings out the sheer detailing of the leaves in the background, the overall lighting of the image is placed in a way that the subjected is highlighted yet blends with the background, another for the emphasis on the subject is obviously the clothes too, but the light that falls on his head showing the texture and an idea of the colour of his hair.  Taken at the Boston Common, Massachusetts  Again the subject is differently emphasized here, though it is not i...

Soft, even front lighting feels calm and welcoming, while side lighting with shadows creates a more dramatic and mysterious mood. Strong backlight or silhouettes make images feel distant and introspective, whereas harsh overhead or bottom lighting comes across...
