Shoot 1

Rule Of Thirds

The rule of thirds is a visual guideline where you divide your frame into a 3×3 grid and place key elements along the lines or at their intersections. This makes the composition more balanced and visually appealing.

Observation

I observed that positioning the subject slightly off-center can make a photograph visually more engaging than placing it in the exact middle. This offset creates a natural sense of balance and movement, while also giving more space to thoughtfully compose the background. It allows the surroundings to complement the subject and adds depth to the overall image, making the composition feel more dynamic and well-integrated.

Learning

From this assignment, I learned that positioning the subject slightly off-center often results in a more visually appealing photograph than keeping it in the exact middle. This approach creates a natural sense of balance and gentle movement, drawing the viewer’s eye across the frame. It also gives extra room to thoughtfully integrate the background, letting the surroundings complement the subject and add depth. By doing so, the image feels more dynamic and tells a stronger visual story, showing how composition can enhance both focus and atmosphere.

Frame Within a Frame

Frame within a frame is a composition technique where you use elements within the scene like windows, doorways, arches, branches, or even shadows to naturally frame your main subject. This adds depth, draws attention to the focal point, and gives the photo a layered, more immersive feel.

This is where i kept saying to myself "SUBJECT MATTERS IDIOT, FOCUS ON IT"

Observation

I observed that there are countless natural frames all around us—doorways, windows, tree branches, railings, even shadows but it ultimately comes down to how you notice and shape them through your perspective. The way you choose and compose these frames can completely change the impact of the photograph; it’s almost a “hit or shit” situation. A carefully chosen frame can lead the viewer’s eye directly to the subject and make the image striking, while a poorly considered one can easily make the photograph feel cluttered or flat.

Learning

I learned how important it is to actively search for these natural frames and to position myself so that the perspective I create draws the viewer’s attention exactly where I want it at first glance. This process helped me understand that framing within a frame is more than just spotting shapes. it’s about using them to tell a story and add depth. I also recognized that this is an area where I still need to grow; it doesn’t come naturally to me yet. But with every photo I take, I can see my understanding improving and my ability to apply the concept becoming stronger. While my results aren’t perfect yet, i noticed that photo by photo i could see myself understanding the concept and implement it to take good photographs (still not great but i'm learning).
